OMN's June 2007 Meeting featured the celebration of 50 years on OKC broadcast TV, and the 80th birthdays for OKC Radio & TV personalities 'Danny Williams' ('3-D Danny' & 'Dannysday') and late-night TV host 'John Ferguson' (alter-ego 'Count Gregore', from 'Shock Theater' and 'Sleepwalker's Matinee'). Tribute was paid to the careers and accomplishments of these local media icons as they told it all. Emcee Chance Newman, from Cox Media, introduced these legendary gentlemen of the media with a theatrical flair of yesteryear. Smiles, laughter and heart felt gratitude embraced the event for everyone, as we listened to their stories of how they began in the business and many events that happened along the way. Danny and John were presented plaques in honor of their years of entertainment. A special surprise was in store for Charline Caruthers, long time employee of the former WKY-TV (now KFOR-TV), who worked with Danny and John. Charline edited film, including the Sooner Football show with Howard Neumann and Bud Wilkinson, and worked in the traffic department for many years. Charline also celebrated her 80th birthday recently, and her family secretly showed up to join in as she was honored with a bouquet of beautiful flowers, and a plaque in tribute to her years of service behind the scenes of Oklahoma City's television community, and her 42 years of continuous membership in AWRT. |
